Services
The Nanny Doctor provides a range of services aimed at improving the quality of the relationship between the child and the nanny from an Attachment Theory perspective. The Nanny Doctor works with families at every stage in their relationship with their nanny. The Nanny Doctor also works between households in cases of divorced or separated parents to ensure consistency across settings and caregivers.
Consultations
Following the initial phone contact, The Nanny Doctor will meet with you in person to discuss your family and identify your family’s needs. While The Nanny Doctor is based in the Los Angeles area, she is available to travel for consultations and supervise implementation of recommendations.
Functional Assessment of Behavior
This is a service that can be utilized when you are beginning to think about hiring a new nanny as well as when you want to address pre-existing problematic behaviors in your home. A Functional Assessment of Behavior aids in identifying your families needs in order to help select the best nanny for your family. This type of assessment/observation also helps to examine problematic behaviors in order to develop and implement help plans such as “star reward charts” or a consistent response across caregivers.
Interviews
The Nanny Doctor is also available to aid in the interview process for hiring your new nanny. The Nanny Doctor has developed a unique in-depth interview format based on years of experience that addresses areas of importance that affect the relationship between the families and their nannies such as religious beliefs and disciplinary techniques and expectations. The Nanny Doctor is available to interview potential nanny candidates for you as well as to co-interview with you in an effort to support you, guide you, and ensure that the right questions are getting asked!
The Nanny Doctor collaborates with local nanny agencies throughout this process.
Beginnings
Beginnings are important. The Nanny Doctor is available to help your family prepare for a new nanny in your home. This service includes helping you to identify your expectations and facilitating the communication of those expectations to your new nanny. The Nanny Doctor will also make specific recommendations tailored to your families needs about steps that should be taken and points to consider during this initial transition in your family.
Conflict Resolution
When there is conflict between nanny and parent or nanny and child, The Nanny Doctor is available to come in, assess the situation and offer directives on ways to solve the problem and maintain the relationship between the child-parent and nanny in order to protect the attachment bond. In the case that a relationship with a nanny has become harmful to your child or your family, The Nanny Doctor may make a recommendation to end that relationship. At that time, she will guide you through that process in order to ensure a healthy ending.
Techniques for Management of Behavioral and Emotional Difficulties
In addition to the services mentioned above, The Nanny Doctor provides consultation to families and nannies regarding management of behavioral and emotional difficulties in the home. The Nanny Doctor visits families in their home, identifies the problem, and offers specific directives to address these needs. The Nanny Doctor aims to ensure consistency across all caregivers in the home and makes sure that anyone who has contact with your child is aware of what the planned consistent approach will be when problem behaviors arise. The Nanny Doctor services are not psychotherapy services and in some cases, The Nanny Doctor may refer your family or child for these services. Once the problem behaviors are identified, The Nanny Doctor is available to actually help to implement these directives.
In addition to the relationship between child-parent and nanny, The Nanny Doctor also consults on sibling relationships.
The Nanny Doctor also provides families and nannies with helpful unique techniques aimed at helping you to manage difficult behaviors.
Psychoeducation for Nannies and Families
Every child is unique and has needs unique to them. The Nanny Doctor provides psychoeducation for families and nannies on various topics, such as becoming knowledgeable of age appropriate behavioral expectations and educating you about normal responses to stress.
The Nanny Doctor services can improve communication between nannies and parents. At times, there are concerns a nanny may have that they are unable to communicate to their employers for fear or concern that they may be fired. Often times, when not resolved, these concerns affect the well being of the child. The Nanny Doctor will provide a safe environment for these communications to take place.
Special Needs Children and Families
In addition to having 10 years of experience as a professional nanny, The Nanny Doctor is also a licensed clinical psychologist with advanced training in child/adolescent psychology. Additionally, when she was a nanny she helped children and families with special needs such as autism, ADHD, as well as emotionally sensitive children. Now she helps families and their nannies to implement appropriate behavior plans and reward systems that are individually tailored to your child.
Tips for Keeping your Nanny Long-Term
The Nanny Doctor is available to provide you with feedback regarding ways in which you can increase the likelihood of maintaining your nanny long-term.
Etiquette and Ethics
The relationship between your nanny and your family is a very unique one. The Nanny Doctor can help you to navigate sticky situations and handle them in an appropriate manner.
Consulting in Schools
The Nanny Doctor consults in schools with teachers as needed to ensure that recommendations for behavior are implemented consistently and appropriately at home and at school.
Transitions & Rituals
The Nanny Doctor is available to aid in helping children, families and nannies adjust to life transitions. Some of these transitions may include moving, switching schools, a new baby, a new stepparent and divorce. Others might include daily transitions in the schedule such as moving from one activity to another, bath time, bedtime, parents leaving for a business trip. In these cases, The Nanny Doctor will provide you with prescribed rituals, or behaviors that you use consistently with these transitions to help the child feel safe, secure, and to allow them to feel as though they live in a safe predictable environment.
Endings
Whether an ending is planned or unplanned, there are ways to have a healthy ending and vastly improve the probability of future healthy endings and relationships in your child’s life.
